Agoura Hills: Vehicle Struck, Injured Elderly Man in Wheelchair

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 30th, a vehicle struck and injured an elderly man in a wheelchair in Agoura Hills. The accident occurred at the intersection of Chesebro Road and Driver Avenue. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for the trauma he suffered. Authorities are investigating the accident.

“Unfortunately, older adults and children are among the most susceptible to pedestrian accidents,” explained California personal injury attorney James Ballidis.

Nationwide, 4,092 pedestrians were killed and 59,000 were injured in traffic crashes in 2009, with adults aged 65 and older accounting for 19 percent of the deaths and an estimated 8 percent of the injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). That year, none of the 177 fatalities and 7 of the 5,215 injuries suffered by pedestrians in traffic accidents throughout Los Angeles County occurred in Agoura Hills, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish the elderly man in the wheelchair who was struck and injured by the vehicle today a full recovery.
