Baker: Charles Kamimura Killed, Two Injured in Rollover Accident
Shortly before 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 79-year-old Charles Kamimura, of Torrance, was killed and two others were injured in a rollover accident near Baker. While traveling southbound on the 15 Freeway, Kamimura swerved to the left to avoid a collision with a semi that had abruptly entered his lane, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. His vehicle overturned when he crashed into the center divider. He was declared dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported two of his passengers to a hospital in Las Vegas. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
“If a driver’s negligence causes a crash, the driver may be held liable for any injuries or deaths that result,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis. “In many cases, the victims or their surviving family members will pursue civil claims against the driver in order to be compensated for expenses associated with their recoveries or losses.”
Throughout San Bernardino County, 11,866 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked San Bernardino 36th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury collisions in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Large trucks were involved in 24 of the fatal and 425 of the injury accidents that occurred in the county that year.
