Elk Grove: David Wayne Plumb Killed and Five Children Injured in Crash

By

Shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 29th, 2011, 30-year-old David Wayne Plumb, of Sacramento, was killed and his five child passengers injured when another driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of California State Route 99 in Elk Grove struck their van. The impact caused the van to overturn, fatally ejecting Plumb. All six of his passengers, including five children, sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities do not believe the wrong-way driver, Amanullah Habib, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash, explains a California injury attorney.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, vehicle occupants accounted for 24,474 of the traffic-related fatalities and 2,011,000 of the injuries suffered in 2009. That year, 17,640 drivers and 6,770 passengers were killed, while 1,395,000 drivers and 616,000 passengers where injured. In 2008, the most recent year for which the California Highway Patrol has posted accident statistics, Elk Grove accounted for 4 of the 84 fatal and 366 of the 7,874 injury motor vehicle traffic collisions that occurred in Sacramento County.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of David Wayne Plumb, the driver killed in the crash last Saturday. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the six passengers who were injured.
