In the early morning hours of April 3rd, 24-year-old Ryan Tremeane was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Ventura. Robert Jack Bell, 36, struck Tremeane while driving through an alley between Main Street and Poll Street, dragging him for more than 50 feet before fleeing. He died from blunt-force trauma at the scene of the accident. Bell was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11th, explains a California personal injury lawyer.
In 2009, 4,092 pedestrians were killed and 59,000 were injured in traffic accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That year, there were a total of 49 fatal and injury pedestrian accidents in Ventura, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The majority of the fatalities were suffered in urban areas, at non-intersection locations, during normal weather conditions, and at night.
