Duarte: Lisa Mireles Killed in Crash with Drunk Driver

By

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday, September 16th, 43-year-old Lisa Mireles, of Burbank, was killed in a crash with a drunk driver in Duarte. While driving east on Huntington Drive at speeds between 80 and 100 mph, 30-year-old William Segura rear-ended Mireles’s SUV, the impact sending the vehicle off the road and into a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Segura, who sustained minor injuries, fled on foot but was later apprehended. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, felony drunk driving, and felony hit and run, explains a California car injury lawyer.

Duarte accounted for none of the 390 fatalities and 93 of the 64,178 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic collisions throughout Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol contributed to 7,171 of the fatal and injury crashes in the county that year. Statewide, the number of people killed in crashes involving alcohol decreased by 7.6 percent from 2008 to 2009, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Lisa Mireles, the woman who was killed in the crash with the drunk driver last Friday in Duarte.
