San Bernardino: Speeding Teen Driver Seriously Injured Motorist Robert Munoz

By

At 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 29th, a teen driver caused an accident while speeding on Highway 18 in the San Bernardino Mountains that seriously injured another motorist. While traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in a 1996 Pontiac Firebird, the 17-year-old boy veered into opposing lanes of traffic while negotiating a curve, crashing into the driver’s door of a 2002 Nissan Altima and causing it to open as the car spun out of control. The driver, 44-year-old Robert Munoz, was ejected from the Altima, suffering major trauma. Emergency responders transported Munoz and his 14-year-old passenger to a hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

“When a driver’s negligent behavior causes serious harm to others on the road, the driver may be held liable for expenses related to the victims’ injuries,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis, “including medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”

Traffic accidents claimed the lives of 192 motor vehicle occupants and injured another 10,983 throughout San Bernardino County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. That year, the county ranked 45th out of 58 counties with similar-sized populations for fatal and injury collisions, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Robert Munoz, the motorist who was seriously injured by the speeding teen driver. We would also like to wish his passenger a full recovery.

The Press-Enterprise originally reported this San Bernardino crash.
