Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 2nd, passengers Janene Macias and Steven R. Dente were seriously injured in a DUI crash in Mount Baldy Village. While traveling southbound on Mount Baldy Road in a 1996 Acura Integra, 26-year-old Deseree D. Macias veered across the painted centerline and uphill lane, slamming into the mountainside, causing the vehicle to overturn. All three occupants of the vehicle suffered major trauma and were transported to hospitals. Deseree was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
“When a person chooses to drink and drive and then causes an accident resulting in trauma to others, he or she may be held liable for expenses related to the victims’ recovery,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
Traffic accidents claimed the lives of 192 motor vehicle occupants and injured another 10,983 in San Bernardino County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s most current data. That year, alcohol contributed to 98 of the fatal and 945 of the injury collisions that occurred in the county.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Deseree Macias, Janene Macias, and Steven R. Dente.
