Shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 8th, 49-year-old Efren Ruiz was killed and his passengers were injured in a broadside collision in Victorville. A vehicle traveling westbound on Lindero Street struck the side of Ruiz’s Ford Expedition at Cypress Avenue; authorities suspect the driver of the car may have run a stop sign. Paramedics transported Ruiz to Desert Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His passengers were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center to receive treatment for their injuries. Authorities are investigating the crash.
“The investigation into a fatal accident can take several weeks, which can be difficult for the family of the victim, as they may not have access to all of the details about the crash,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis.
In 2010, 361 people were killed or injured in collisions in Victorville, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The city ranked 42nd out of 53 cities with populations ranging in size from 100,001 to 250,000 residents. The closer a city’s ranking is to 1st place, the poorer its traffic safety record.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Efren Ruiz, the man who was killed in the broadside collision. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the passengers who were injured.
The Victorville Daily Press originally reported this fatal crash.
