At about 4:19 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 47-year-old Dora Esperanza Rodas-Fuentes was killed in a head-on collision in Apple Valley. While traveling eastbound on Bear Valley Road, the driver of a Ford pickup truck swerved into opposing lanes of traffic and collided head-on with Rodas-Fuentes’ Chevrolet pickup truck. She sustained major trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
“When a driver’s negligence causes a crash resulting in the death of another, the family of the victim may hold the driver accountable for their loss by pursuing a wrongful death claim,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis.
Apple Valley accounted for 2 of the 180 fatalities and 94 of the 11,050 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in crashes that occurred in San Bernardino County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident data of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, with 1st place being the worst. That year, Apple Valley ranked 103rd out of 103 cities.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Dora Esperanza Rodas-Fuentes, the woman who was killed in the head-on collision.
