Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 51-year-old motorcyclist Douglas Navolt was critically injured in a crash in Arroyo Grande. Eighty-five-year-old Elizabeth Thielker turned left in front of Navolt at the intersection of Valley Road and Sunrise Terrace; authorities determined that Navolt had the right-of-way. He was transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma.
“When a driver’s negligence causes an accident that injures others, the driver may be held liable for the victims’ recovery-related expenses,” explained California motorcycle accident lawyer James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”
Arroyo Grande accounted for none of the 3 fatalities and 2 of the 74 injuries suffered by motorcyclists in crashes that occurred in San Luis Obispo in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. San Luis Obispo ranked 33rd out of 58 counties in the state for its incidence of fatal and injury motorcycle accidents in a California Office of Traffic Safety rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Douglas Navolt, the motorcyclist critically injured in the crash.
