Palm Springs: Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Truck

By

At about 4:45 p.m. on Monday, November 5, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a truck in Palm Springs. The crash occurred when the driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup turned left from Seven Lakes Drive onto Gene Autry Trail and collided with a motorcyclist who was riding south on Gene Autry Trial. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck proceeded to crash into a house at the southeast corner of the intersection; none of the residents were home at the time. Emergency responders transported the driver of the truck to an area hospital to receive treatment for moderate trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident; however, they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

“After a traffic accident resulting in injury or death, the at-fault driver may be held liable for the recovery-related debts incurred by the victims or the losses suffered by their families,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.

Palm Springs accounted for 18 of the 203 fatalities and 423 of the 11,298 injuries suffered in traffic accidents that occurred in Riverside County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the traffic data of cities with similarly sized populations, ranking those with the poorest records the highest, with 1st place being the worst. That year, Palm Springs ranked 3rd out of 93 cities for traffic safety.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the motorcyclist who was killed in the collision. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the driver of the truck.
