Baldwin Park: Two Killed in Head-On DUI Crash

By

At around midnight on Saturday, December 22, two people were killed in a head-on DUI crash in Baldwin Park. While traveling the wrong-way at about 80 mph on Gladstone Street in a sport utility vehicle, 38-year-old Juan C. Salinas-Reyes, of Azusa, collided with another vehicle at Jackson Avenue. The driver of the vehicle and a 55-year-old man from Azusa were killed in the accident. Salinas-Reyes received treatment for minor trauma and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Elsewhere in Los Angeles County, two motorists were killed when their vehicles slammed into utility poles. Authorities are investigating the collisions.

“Driving under the influence is a serious offence, and violators face criminal charges and civil actions,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis. “In many cases, the victims or their families will seek compensation for expenses associated with injury or loss suffered in an accident from the negligent driver through the personal injury or the wrongful death claims process.”

In 2011, 9,878 people were killed in drunk driving crashes that occurred throughout the United States, with 395 of the fatalities suffered in the second half of December, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s most current records. In California, the number of traffic fatalities resulting from crashes involving a driver or a motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 grams per deciliter or greater reached a historic low of 774 in 2010 and 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.
