La Quinta: Hit-and-Run Driver Struck, Injured Bicyclist

By

On the night of Sunday, December 16, a hit-and-run driver struck and injured a bicyclist in La Quinta. The dark-colored sedan hit the male cyclist as he rode south along Washington Street near Avenue 48. He sustained moderate trauma and was transported to an area hospital. Authorities believe that the right side of the vehicle may be damaged and are asking that witnesses, or anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the driver, contact the Thermal sheriff’s station at 760-863-8990.

“Apprehending a hit-and-run driver can prove beneficial for the victim of the accident,” explained California cycle accident lawyer James Ballidis, “as then the victim may seek compensation from the driver for recovery-related expenses through the personal injury claims process.”

La Quinta accounted for 1 of the 8 fatalities and 6 of the 334 injuries suffered by bicyclists in accidents that occurred in Riverside County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The state’s incidence of bicyclist fatalities decreased 9.2 percent, from 109 in 2008 to 99 in 2009 and 2010.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the cyclist who was struck and injured.
