Redondo Beach: Female Pedestrian Killed in DUI Crash, Driver Arrested

By

At about 11 p.m. on Friday, December 14, a female pedestrian was killed in a DUI crash in Redondo Beach. Multiple vehicles had stopped to allow the woman to cross the street in the 13000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard when 21-year-old Ryan Mascioni struck her with his yellow Audi. He proceeded to collide with two parked cars as he fled the scene. The woman was taken to an area hospital, where she was later declared dead. Mascioni turned himself into the Lawndale police station about an hour after the accident and faces charges related to the woman’s death and for driving under the influence.

“A time to celebrate with friends and loved ones, the holidays can also be marked by unnecessary tragedy, as too many revelers take the wheel while impaired,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.

In 2011, alcohol-related traffic accidents claimed the lives of 9,878 people, with 395 of the fatalities occurring during the second half of December, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s most current data. Last weekend, authorities in Los Angeles County arrested 456 people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reported the Los Angeles Daily News.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the female pedestrian who was killed in the DUI crash.
