Del Norte: Motorist Killed in Head-On Crash

By

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, December 21, a motorist was killed in a head-on crash in Del Norte. While traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 101 in a 2003 GMC Sierra, 32-year-old Coulter E. Mann, of Brookings, veered into the southbound lane, colliding with a Ford Focus, the impact killing the 68-year-old man from Crescent City who was driving the vehicle. Emergency responders transported Mann to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Authorities suspect that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors and are investigating the accident.

“When a family loses a loved one to the negligence of a driver, the family may hold the driver liable by filing a wrongful death claim,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

Traffic collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 224 people in Del Norte County in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Thirty-nine of the accidents resulting in injury or death involved alcohol, with Del Norte ranking 5th out of 58 counties for its incidence of DUI crashes.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the motorist who was killed in the head-on collision.

The Times-Standard originally reported this Del Norte County crash.
