La Mirada: Police Pursuit Ended in Collision, Injury

By

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, a police pursuit ended in a collision and injury in La Mirada. Officers attempted to stop a U-Haul that had been reported stolen at Firestone Boulevard and Patton Road, but the driver, 28-year-old Colin Prouty, refused to stop. A chase ensued, ending when Prouty crashed into a Chevrolet SUV at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Valley View Boulevard. The driver of the SUV was injured in the collision. Prouty was arrested for felony evasion.

“When a driver causes harm to others, he or she may be held liable for the expense of their recoveries,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis.

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records indicate that collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 197 people in La Mirada in 2010. Speed was a factor in 16 of the crashes that resulted in injury or fatality. The OTS ranked La Mirada 26th out of 93 cities with populations of a similar size for its incidence of auto accidents; 1st place is the worst possible ranking.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the driver who was injured in the collision.

The Press-Telegram originally reported this police pursuit and crash.
