San Marcos: Hit-and-Run Driver Struck, Seriously Injured Cyclist

By

At about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 20, a hit-and-run driver struck and seriously injured a 47-year-old male cyclist in San Marcos. While traveling on East Mission Road, the motorist veered into the bicycle lane and collided with the cyclist, the impact throwing him from the bike and into the curb. He sustained serious facial trauma and was transported to an area hospital. Witnesses, or anyone with information about this accident, are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 858-565-5200.

“After a hit-and-run accident, apprehending the driver could prove pivotal to the victim’s ability to obtain compensation for recovery-related expenses,” explained California cycle accident lawyer James Ballidis, “which is why it is so important for witnesses to come forward to aid law enforcement in the search for the driver.”

San Marcos accounted for 1 of the 8 fatalities and 17 of the 897 injuries suffered by bicyclists in collisions that occurred in San Diego in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Hit-and-run was a factor in 18 of the bicycle accidents that resulted in injury or death in the city that year.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the cyclist who was injured in the hit-and-run accident.
