At about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, four people were injured in a DUI crash in Oxnard. While traveling southbound on the 101 Freeway in a pickup truck, 20-year-old Oswaldo Hinojosa collided with another vehicle near the Del Norte off ramp. He fled the scene, exited on Del Norte, running a stop sign, and crashing into a car, the impact sending the vehicles down an embankment. Emergency responders transported three occupants of the car and one from the truck to area hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries. Hinojosa and one of his passengers attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and felony leaving the scene of an accident.
“When vehicle occupants are injured in a crash, they may file personal injury claims against the negligent driver in order to receive compensation for the expense of their recoveries,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”
In 2010, 1,245 people were killed or injured in collisions that occurred in Oxnard, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. Alcohol was a factor in 163 of the collisions causing injury or death. The OTS ranked Oxnard 2nd out of 53 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of DUI crashes in a ranking system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the four people who were injured in the collision.
