On Saturday, March 9, 68-year-old motorist Allen Junior Keppner struck and fatally injured 13-year-old pedestrian David Wilder Pickart-Jain in Eureka. The accident occurred at the intersection of J Street and Carson Street. Emergency responders transported the teenager to an area hospital, where he succumbed to the trauma he suffered the following day. The accident is under investigation.
“When a family loses a loved one to a traffic accident, they may hold the negligent driver liable for their loss by filing a wrongful death claim,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
Eureka accounted for 1 of the 2 fatalities and 37 of the 56 injuries suffered by pedestrians in traffic accidents that occurred in Humboldt County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Pedestrians under the age of 15 were involved in 5 of the accidents that resulted in injury or death.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of David Wilder Pickart-Jain, the teen who was struck and fatally injured.
