Indio: Teen Passenger Victor Regalado Killed in DUI Crash

By

At about 4 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, teen passenger Victor Regalado was killed in a DUI crash in Indio. The teenaged driver of a Jeep crashed at the intersection of Adams Street and Avenue 40. Regalado, 18, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Another passenger left the scene of the accident before authorities arrived, seeking treatment at a local hospital for minor trauma. Police suspect there may also have been a third passenger but have yet to locate him or her. The accident is under investigation.

“When a passenger is fatally injured in a collision, his or her family may hold the at-fault driver liable through the wrongful death claims process,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis.

Indio accounted for 1 of the 31 fatalities and 79 of the 3,554 injuries suffered by passengers in crashes that occurred in Riverside County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Two of the crashes that resulted in injury or death in the city that year involved a driver under the age of 21 years, and alcohol was a contributing factor to 17 of the fatal or injury accidents.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Victor Regalado, the teen passenger who was killed in the DUI crash.
