Mission Viejo: Vehicle Struck, Killed Cyclist Eric Billings

By

At about 6:45 p.m. on Friday, March 15, a vehicle struck and killed 54-year-old cyclist Eric Billings in Mission Viejo. Thirty-nine-year-old Hast Fakhrai-Bayrooti struck Billings as he road in the bike lane of Santa Margarita Parkway between El Toro Road and Los Alisos Boulevard. Billings was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the accident.

“When a cyclist is fatally injured in a collision, his or her family may hold the negligent driver liable for their loss,” explained California bicycle accident lawyer James Ballidis.

Mission Viejo accounted for none of the 3 fatalities and 11 of the 1,203 injuries suffered by bicyclists in traffic accidents that occurred in Orange County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. California’s incidence of cyclist fatalities increased 13.2 percent from 99 in 2010 to 114 in 2011.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Eric Billings, the cyclist who was struck and killed.

The Orange County Register originally reported this Mission Viejo accident.
