San Diego: Alisa, Jayden, Logan, and Taylor Cunningham Injured in Collision with Wrong-Way Driver

By

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, Alisa Cunningham and her three children, Taylor, Jayden, and Logan, were seriously injured in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver on State Route 52. While traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR 52, 30-year-old Matthew Leonardo crashed into the family’s minivan east of Santo Road in Tierrasanta. Emergency responders transported the Cunninghams to the hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Leonardo was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash and are investigating.

“California law ensures the rights of motorists to seek compensation for recovery-related expenses from negligent drivers following collisions,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”

Crashes claimed the lives of or caused injury to 17,889 people in San Diego County in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. Alcohol was a factor in 2,190 of the collisions that resulted in injury or death. Drivers between the ages of 21 and 34 were involved in 816 of the fatal and injury accidents.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Alisa, Jayden, Logan, and Taylor Cunningham, the family who was injured in the head-on collision with the wrong-way driver.

Additional information on the injury claims process is available to the public free of charge through our office.
