Paso Robles: Pedro Arellano, Anthony Bianco, and Victoria Martinez Injured in Distracted Driving Crash

By

At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 50-year-old Pedro Arellano, 79-year-old Anthony Bianco, and 51-year-old Victoria Martinez were injured in a distracted driving crash in Paso Robles. While traveling eastbound on Highway 46 west of Highway 101, Arellano answered his phone, causing him to veer into the oncoming traffic of the westbound lane and collide with another vehicle. Bianco, the driver of that vehicle, suffered a broken ankle in the crash. Martinez, a passenger in Arellano’s vehicle, sustained a fractured rib and sprained wrist, while Arellano fractured his leg, chest, and arm. Emergency responders transported them to area hospitals. The accident is under investigation.

“Under California law, those who have been injured in a crash may file civil claims against the at-fault party in order to obtain compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines distracted driving as engaging in any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving, such as texting, using a cell phone or smartphone, reading, including maps, and adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player. In 2011, distracted driving crashes killed 3,331 people and injured another 387,000.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Pedro Arellano, Anthony Bianco, and Victoria Martinez, the three people who were injured in the distracted driving crash.
