At about 11:44 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 66-year-old Dr. Allen Newton, of Lake Arrowhead, was killed in a head-on crash in San Bernardino. While traveling northbound on Waterman Avenue at a high rate of speed, the driver of a Chevy Silverado pickup truck veered into opposing lanes of traffic at Marshall Street and struck the Ford Taurus Newton was driving. Newton was declared dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation.
“When a motorist’s negligence causes a fatal collision, the family of the victim may file a wrongful death claim against the driver in order to be compensated for their loss,” explained California injury lawyer James Ballidis.
In 2010, 1,101 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents that occurred in San Bernardino, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS compares the accident data of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, with 1st place considered the worst. That year, San Bernardino ranked 19th out of 53 cities for its incidence of fatal and injury accidents.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Dr. Allen Newton, the man killed in the head-on crash.
