Los Angeles: One Pedestrian Killed, Three Seriously Injured in Multiple-Vehicle Crash

By

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, July 20, one pedestrian was killed and three others were seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle crash in Los Angeles. While traveling northbound on La Cienega Boulevard, a 1991 black Ford Mustang collided with a 2012 BMW at Cashio Street, the impact sending the BMW into a 2007 Scion, causing that vehicle to crash into a group of pedestrians on the sidewalk. A male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported the other three to the hospital. Authorities arrested the driver of the Ford, who initially fled the scene on foot, on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence.

“Those who seriously or fatally harm others while driving under the influence may face criminal charges and civil lawsuits,” explained California pedestrian accident lawyer James Ballidis. “The state will penalize them for violating the law and the victims or their families will pursue civil claims in order to hold them liable for the expenses associated with their injuries or losses.”

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s records indicate that 4,962 pedestrians were killed or injured in traffic accidents that occurred in Los Angeles County in 2010. Alcohol was a factor in 6,511 of the accidents that resulted in injury or death in the county that year. Alcohol-impaired driving fatalities were at a historic low of 774 in 2010 and 2011-the lowest DUI death total the state has ever recorded.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the man who was killed in the multiple-vehicle crash. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the three people who were seriously injured.
