Shortly before 2:46 a.m. on Sunday, September 15, 20-year-old Abel Preciado was killed and his 21-year-old male passenger was seriously injured in a crash in Brea, reported the Orange County Register. Preciado crashed the red Chevrolet Camaro he was driving into a wooden Southern California Edison utility pole on Carbon Canyon Road, east of the Olinda Village neighborhood. Preciado suffered fatal trauma and his passenger sustained serious injuries. Authorities are investigating whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
In 2010, 248 people were killed or injured in collisions that occurred in Brea, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Alcohol was a factor in 16 of the fatal and injury collisions. Brea ranked 10th out of 93 cities for its incidence of fatal and injury motor vehicle accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is the worst.
Under California law, those who have been injured or lost loved ones in car accidents may file civil claims in order to hold the negligent party liable.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Abel Preciado. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the passenger who was injured.
