Shortly before noon on Thursday, September 12, a sedan struck and fatally injured 63-year-old cyclist John Nodd in Moreno Valley, reported The Press-Enterprise. The accident occurred on Moreno Beach Drive near John F. Kennedy Drive. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital, where he succumbed to the trauma he suffered at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Traffic collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 31 bicyclists in Moreno Valley in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked Moreno Valley 40th out of 53 cities for its incidence of fatal and injury cyclist accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Bicyclist fatalities in California increased 13.2 percent, from 99 in 2010 to 114 in 2011.
