Palmdale: Virgina Czarnecki Killed, Judith Frazer and Kristina Hernandez Injured in Crash

By

At about 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 92-year-old Virgina Czarnecki was killed and 53-year-old Judith Frazer and 27-year-old Kristina Hernandez were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash in Palmdale, reported the Antelope Valley Times. While traveling eastbound on Avenue O in a 2013 Ford Explorer, 65-year-old Deanna Norton misjudged the distance and speed of a westbound 2006 Hyundai Tiburon and turned left in front of the vehicle just east of 27th Street West. Despite swerving to avoid a collision, Hernandez, the driver of the Hyundai, hit the back of the Ford and then careened into the eastbound lanes, where she crashed head-on into the 2013 Kia Forte Frazer was driving, the impact sending the Kia into a 2008 Ford Van that was parked on Avenue O. Czarnecki, a passenger in the Kia, was transported to an area hospital, where she was declared dead a short time later. Frazer suffered minor trauma, and Hernandez and her passenger sustained lacerations. Norton was not hurt. Authorities are investigating the collision.

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s records indicate that 812 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions in Palmdale in 2010. The OTS compares the accident data of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, with 1st place considered the worst. That year, Palmdale ranked 17th out of 53 cities with populations of between 100,001 and 250,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes.
