South Los Angeles: Pedestrian Nathaniel Mota Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident

On the night of Friday, September 13, 16-year-old Nathaniel Mota was killed in a hit-and-run accident in South Los Angeles, reported the Los Angeles Times. An usher and active member of the Iglesia Catolica Santa Cecilia church on South Normandie Avenue near West 42nd Street, Mota was leaving a youth group meeting when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are searching for the driver of a white Nissan Maxima.

In Los Angeles County, traffic accidents claimed the lives of or injured 4,962 pedestrians, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Hit-and-run was a factor in 5,962 of the fatal and injury accidents that occurred in the county. The OTS ranked Los Angeles 2nd out of 58 counties for pedestrian safety; 1st place is the worst possible ranking.
