Westminster: Vehicle Struck, Killed Pedestrian William Vaughn

At about 5:20 p.m. on Friday, September 13, a vehicle struck and killed 82-year-old pedestrian William Vaughn in Westminster, reported the Orange County Register. The accident occurred at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Heil Avenue. Emergency responders transported him to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are investigating the accident.

Thirty-three pedestrians lost their lives or were injured in traffic accidents in Westminster in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked Westminster 24th out of 103 cities for its incidence of fatal and injury pedestrian accidents; 1st place is the worst. Pedestrian fatalities in the state increased 3.9 percent from 601 in 2010 to 625 in 2011.

When a family loses a loved one to a traffic accident, they may hold the at-fault party liable by filing a wrongful death claim.
