At about 3:23 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 21-year-old Victor Hugo Diaz Jr. was killed and another motorist was injured in a crash in Fontana, reported The Press-Enterprise. While traveling westbound in a 2013 Kia Soul, Diaz ran a red light at the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Citrus Avenue, broadsiding a 2006 maroon Ford F150 pickup truck when he entered the intersection. Emergency responders pronounced Diaz dead at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of the truck sustained a fractured collarbone, cuts, and scrapes and was taken to an area hospital. Witnesses to the collisions are asked to call police at 909-350-7700.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident data indicate that motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 544 people in Fontana in 2010. Traffic signals and signs were a primary collision factor in 154 of the traffic-related fatalities and 20,740 of the injuries that were suffered in California that year, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System.
