Shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 27-year-old motorcyclist Daniel Comaniciu, of Torrance, was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Long Beach. The accident occurred on Termino Avenue near Seventh Street. The impact threw Comaniciu from his bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the crash and have asked that witnesses contact Long Beach Police at 562-570-7244.
The California Office of Traffic Safety indicates that 73 motorcyclists lost their lives or were injured in collisions in Long Beach in 2010. The OTS compares the crash data of cities with similarly sized populations. It ranks those with the poorest records the highest, starting at 1st place. In 2010, Long Beach ranked 5th out of 13 cities with populations of more than 250,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury motorcycle accidents.
