Lake Mathews: Motorcyclist Harold Jaffke Killed in Collision with Sedan

At about 9:42 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 73-year-old motorcyclist Harold Jaffke, of Mission Viejo, was killed in a collision with a sedan near Lake Mathews, reported The Press-Enterprise. The accident occurred a mile west of Lake Mathews on Cajalco Road. Jaffke was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person sustained moderate trauma. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

In 2010, traffic accidents claimed the lives of or caused injury to 538 motorcyclists in Riverside County, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked Riverside County 41st out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury motorcycle accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Statewide, motorcyclist fatalities increased 15 percent, from 352 in 2010 to 414 in 2011.
