Shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a BMW in Los Feliz, reported the Los Angeles Times. The accident occurred when the man pulled his 2009 Kawasaki bike out of a driveway and into the 4600 block of Los Feliz Boulevard. Emergency responders transported the rider to an area hospital, where he was declared dead a short time later. The driver of the car received treatment for trauma. Authorities do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors and are investigating the crash.
Throughout Los Angeles County, 2,713 motorcyclists were killed or injured in traffic accidents in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. The OTS ranked Los Angeles 34th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury motorcycle accidents in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Statewide, motorcyclist fatalities increased 15 percent from 352 in 2010 to 414 in 2011.
