San Jacinto: Rene Munguia Killed, Two Injured in Rollover Accident

By

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 27, 23-year-old Rene Munguia was killed and two people were injured in a rollover accident in San Jacinto, reported The Press-Enterprise. While traveling along Soboba Road, the driver of a pickup truck lost control of the vehicle less than two miles north of Chabela Drive, causing it to overturn several times. Munguia, a front-seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported two other victims to area hospitals to receive treatment for injuries ranging from moderate to major. The accident is under investigation.

San Jacinto accounted for none of the 164 fatalities and 132 of the 10,594 injuries suffered in motor vehicle accidents that occurred in Riverside County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked San Jacinto 37th out of 93 similarly sized cities for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes that year; 1st place is the worst possible ranking.

California law ensures that that those who have been injured or lost loved ones in traffic accidents have recourse through the civil justice system and may hold the parties at fault for the accidents liable for expenses related to their recoveries or losses.
