Altadena: Driver of GMC SUV Who Struck, Injured Vendale Joseph Jr. Sought

Authorities are searching for the driver of a GMC SUV who struck and injured 13-year-old Vendale Joseph Jr. in Altadena on Tuesday, May 1st. Joseph was walking home from Eliot Middle School when he was hit by the vehicle while traversing a marked crosswalk at the intersection of East New York Drive and North Hill Avenue at about 3 p.m. The female driver stopped and rolled down her window to ask if Joseph was all right and then left the scene. Although he initially responded that he was okay, he later started to feel pain due to a fractured pelvis. Witnesses, or anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the driver, are asked to call the California Highway Patrol at 626-296-8104.

“After a pedestrian accident resulting in injury, the absence of the driver at fault for the collision can be problematic for the victim,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis, “as he or she will have to pay for the cost of medical treatment and other expenses associated with recovery.”

Traffic collisions claimed the lives of 390 motor vehicle occupants and injured another 64,178 throughout Los Angles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. After comparing the accident statistics of 53 counties with similar populations, the California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Los Angeles County 15th for fatal and injury collisions, a somewhat poor ranking considering that first place is considered the worst.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Vendale Joseph Jr., the pedestrian who was struck and injured by the GMC SUV in Altadena last Tuesday.
