At about 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 32-year-old Noemi Tejeda was killed in a >pedestrian accident in Anaheim. A Nissan SUV struck Tejeda while she was crossing La Palma Avenue near North East Street. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The accident is under investigation and witnesses have been asked to call (714) 765-1900, explains an Orange County injury lawyer.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, the number of pedestrian fatalities suffered dropped by 9.2 percent from 620 in 2008 to 563 in 2009, the lowest annual tally of pedestrian fatalities since the federal government began recording such statistics in 1975. Pedestrian fatalities also decreased nationwide by 7 percent from 4,378 in 2008 to 4,092 in 2009, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
