Colton: Tow-Truck Driver Jesus Salcedo Killed in 10 Freeway Crash

At about 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30th, 56-year-old tow-truck driver Jesus Salcedo was killed in a crash on the 10 Freeway in Colton. The owner of J & S Towing, Salcedo was towing a disabled vehicle from the shoulder of the westbound lanes when a Nissan Titan sport utility vehicle struck him, the impact causing him to suffer fatal trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident.

“After a fatal crash, the formal investigation can take several weeks,” explained San Bernardino truck accident lawyer James Ballidis, “which can be frustrating for family members seeking information about what happened to their loved one.”

Colton accounted for 11 of the 192 fatalities and 320 of the 10,983 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic accidents in San Bernardino County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident statistics of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings; 1st place is considered the worst. In 2010, Colton ranked 32nd out of 103 cities for fatal and injury crashes.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Jesus Salcedo, the man who was struck and killed while driving the tow truck on the 10 Freeway.

The Press-Enterprise originally reported this fatal Colton crash.
