Elk Grove: Four Killed, Seven Injured in Head-On Collision on Interstate 5

At about 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, four people were killed and seven were injured in a head-on collision in Elk Grove. While traveling southbound on Interstate 5, the driver of a Ford Expedition swerved into opposing lanes of traffic and crashed into a northbound Honda Accord, the impact causing the vehicles to overturn. Occupants from both of the vehicles were ejected. The driver and two passengers of the Ford-one of them identified as 50-year-old Kulwant Kaur Gill-suffered fatal trauma. The driver of the Honda was also killed. Emergency responders transported seven people to area hospitals. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

“California law provides recourse for those seriously harmed or who have lost loved ones in accidents caused by the negligence of others,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis. “Those who have been injured may seek compensation from the negligent party through the personal injury claims process, while the families of the victims may file wrongful death claims.”

Elk Grove accounted for 6 of the 76 fatalities and 570 of the 9,708 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in collisions that occurred in Sacramento County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The incidence of traffic fatalities in California decreased 11.9 percent from 3,081 in 2009 to 2,715 in 2010.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the families of the four people who were killed in the head-on collision. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the seven people who were injured.
