Hesperia: Sergio Marin Killed, Five Seriously Injured in Wrong-Way Crash

Shortly before 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 32-year-old Sergio Marin was killed and five people were seriously injured in a wrong-way crash in Hesperia. While traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Cottonwood Avenue in a 1994 Honda Civic, Marin crashed into a southbound 1997 Acura. He died at the scene. The five occupants of the Acura, two adults and three minors, suffered major trauma and were transported to local hospitals. Authorities are investigating the accident and have requested that witnesses call Deputy Kevin McCurdy at 760-947-1500.

“After an accident resulting in injury or death, the victims or their families may seek compensation for the expenses related to their recoveries or their losses by filing injury or wrongful death claims against the negligent driver,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

In 2010, 275 people were killed or injured in collisions in Hesperia, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. The OTS ranked Hesperia 68th out of 103 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of fatal and injury collisions in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Statewide, the OTS recorded 2,791 traffic fatalities that year.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Sergio Marin, the motorist killed in the wrong-way crash. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the five people who were seriously injured.
