At 10:41 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, a vehicle rolled over on State Highway 62 in the Mojave Desert, the impact killing the driver and passenger, 34-year-old Emiliano Martinez and 31-year-old Jennifer Segura. The accident occurred at mile marker 104 near Vidal Junction. Martinez and Segura were pronounced dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
“After a fatal accident, the families of the victims may seek compensation from the at-fault party-whether the city for its failure to properly maintain roads or from the driver for his or her negligent operation of the vehicle-for expenses associated with their loss,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident data indicate that 11,866 people were killed or injured in crashes in 2010, with 1,072 of the injuries and fatalities occurring between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2:59 a.m. San Bernardino ranked 36th out of 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury accidents.
