At about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 19-year-old Cody Dalen, of Vallejo, was killed and 18-year-old Adam Luzzi and 17-year-old Antonio Del Castillo, both of Fairfield, were injured in a rollover crash northeast of Napa. While traveling southbound on Monticello Road in a 1984 Honda Civic, Luzzi veered from the road about a mile south of Circle Oaks Drive, crashing down an embankment. The vehicle rolled over, coming to a rest on its roof in a creek. All three teens were trapped in the wreckage. Dalen died at the scene. Emergency responders transported Luzzi and Del Castillo to area hospitals to receive treatment for injuries ranging from major to moderate. Authorities suspect speed may have been a contributing factor in the accident and are investigating.
“After a crash causing injury or death, the victims or their families may file civil claims against the negligent driver in order to obtain compensation for expenses associated with their recoveries or losses,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.
In 2010, 891 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents in Napa County, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Seven of the collisions involved a driver under the age of 21 years. Speed was a contributing factor to 220 of the fatal and injury collisions that occurred in the county that year, with Napa ranking 9th out of 58 counties for speed-related crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Cody Dalen. We would also like to wish a full recovery to Adam Luzzi and Antonio Del Castillo.
