Pasadena: Police Pursuit Ended in Crash that Killed Two

At about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 25, a police pursuit ended in a crash that killed two people and injured two others in Pasadena. The driver of a sport utility vehicle traveling near the 1900 block of Newport Avenue-the location of a fatal shooting earlier in the day-would not stop when police attempted to pull the vehicle over for a traffic violation. A chase ensued, ending when the SUV speed through a red light at the intersection of Marengo Avenue and Maple Street, crashing into another vehicle. Two occupants of the vehicle, a 26-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy, were killed, and two others were transported to an area hospital. Authorities arrested the occupants of the SUV on suspicion of murder.

“When motor vehicle occupants are killed in a collision, their families may file wrongful death claims against the at-fault driver in order to hold him or her liable for their losses,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

Pasadena accounted for 4 of the 346 fatalities and 1,124 of the 62,881 injuries suffered in crashes that occurred in Los Angeles County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety indicated that traffic fatalities increased 2.6 percent in California from 2010 to 2011.
