At about 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, three people were killed and four were seriously injured in a head-on collision in Pico Rivera. While traveling northbound at a high rate of speed in the 3500 block of San Gabriel River Parkway, the 22-year-old male driver of a Honda Civic veered into southbound lanes while negotiating a curve and collided with a Nissan Sentra. The driver and two boys, ages 11 and 13, were thrown from the vehicle and killed. Emergency responders transported four victims, one woman and child from the Honda and two women from the Nissan, to area hospitals to receive treatment for major trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident.
“After a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious injury or death, the victims or their surviving family members may file civil claims against the at-fault driver in order to obtain compensation for the expenses associated with their recoveries or losses,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident statistics indicate that 173 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions that occurred in Pico Rivera in 2010. Drivers aged 21 to 34 were involved in 12 of the crashes resulting in injury or death; speed was a contributing factor to 29 of the accidents.
