At about 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 14th, 39-year-old Michael Douglas De St. Jean, of Santa Clarita, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Valencia. While riding eastbound on Decoro Drive, De St. Jean was involved in a crash with a van that was turning from Rutherford Place west onto Decoro Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating and have asked that witnesses contact Detective Mike Shapiro at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-799-5111.
“The official investigation into a fatal accident can take several weeks to complete,” explained California motorcycle injury lawyer James Ballidis. “During this time, it may be difficult for the family of the victim to obtain information about the crash.”
Santa Clarita accounted for 3 of the 80 fatalities and 32 of the 2,709 injuries suffered by motorcyclists in traffic crashes in Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Throughout California, motorcyclist fatalities decreased from 560 in 2008 to 394 in 2009, the first decrease recorded since 1998.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis & Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Michael Douglas De St. Jean, the motorcyclist who was killed in the collision.
