Shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 14, a vehicle struck and seriously injured pedestrians Jon Anderson, 20, and Jessica Martin, 18, in Victorville. Anderson and Martin were at home when they heard a vehicle crash at Nisqualli Road and First Avenue. They went to assist the victim, who was trapped in the wreckage of a single-vehicle rollover. When emergency responders arrived they returned home, crossing Nisqualli Road, where a Mitsubishi Galant struck them. They were airlifted to area hospitals. Authorities are investigating whether or not the driver was speeding or driving under the influence. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Deputy Mooradian at (760) 955-3128.
“Whether inside or outside of a crosswalk, pedestrians have rights,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis, “and may hold a negligent driver liable for expenses associated with their recoveries following an accident.”
Victorville accounted for 3 of the 33 fatalities and 20 of the 409 injuries suffered by pedestrians in traffic accidents that occurred in San Bernardino County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Collisions that occurred between 9 p.m. and 2:59 a.m. accounted for 37 of the accidents that resulted in fatality or injury that year in Victorville.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Jon Anderson and Jessica Martin, the pedestrians who were struck and seriously injured.
