At about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th, a passenger was seriously injured in a DUI accident in Watsonville. While turning from Green Valley Road onto Stewart Avenue in a BMW sedan, Javier Sanchez was involved in a collision with a Toyota Tercel. A male passenger in the BMW was flown to a Santa Clara County trauma center, while Sanchez was transported to a local hospital. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. The occupants of the Tercel were not injured.
“A passenger injured in an accident may seek compensation from the negligent driver for the cost of his or her recovery,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis, “including for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.”
Watsonville accounted for none of the 19 fatalities and 119 of the 1,239 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in collisions throughout Santa Cruz County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. That year, alcohol was a contributing factor in 8 of the fatal and 161 of the injury crashes that occurred in the county.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the passenger and the driver who were injured in the accident last Sunday.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel originally reported this Watsonville DUI accident.
