Shortly before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, a female passenger was seriously injured in a DUI hit-and-run in the Zzyzx area of San Bernardino County. While traveling southbound on Interstate 15 in a black Lincoln Town Car, 29-year-old Jose Luis Bueno Jr., of Norwalk, veered to the left; when he overcorrected, the car rolled over, landing on its roof in the desert between Zzyzx and Rasor roads. Bueno fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended and arrested for felony DUI and hit-and-run. The female passenger was flown to an area hospital for major trauma. The accident is under investigation.
“Passengers who are injured in auto accidents may file personal injury claims against the negligent driver in order to be compensated for the expense of their recoveries,” explained California injury lawyer James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”
Throughout San Bernardino County, 11,866 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 1,351 of the fatal and injury crashes that occurred in the county that year; hit-and-run was a factor in 558 of the accidents.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to the female passenger who was seriously injured in the DUI hit-and-run accident.
